Utility billing is the most repetitive job in property management. Every month, someone reads the electricity meter for each unit, multiplies the units consumed by the rate, adds water and sanitation charges, writes a receipt, delivers it, and then tracks who has paid. Done by hand across several units, it consumes hours and invites errors - a misread meter or a slipped decimal becomes a dispute with a tenant.

eJyalo automates the full utility billing cycle: calculation, distribution, collection, and reporting, all in Nepali Rupees (NPR). When you set up a building, you define the electricity price per unit once. Each month, on a fixed date accepted by both landlord and tenant, eJyalo calculates each unit's bill from its meter reading, generates the receipt automatically, and sends it to the tenant. Tenants receive SMS notifications about their dues and can pay via Khalti or in cash, with every payment recorded against its receipt.

The system handles the messy realities too. If a tenant overpays, the surplus goes into their eJyalo wallet and offsets next month's bill; underpaid amounts carry forward to the next receipt automatically. Late payments trigger notifications to both parties, and landlords can add penalty charges - or, with eJyalo's smart meters installed, even switch off electricity to a unit remotely in extreme cases.
